Mixed Media Fiber Journal
Wednesday, March 10

Using one sheet of Fabriano Artistico 140lb hot press watercolor paper, we will create a Mixed Media Journal. This journal will have 12 pages, 10” high and 8 ½” wide. We will use scraps, old photographs, paper, fabric, old postcards, pattern paper, whatever you want to create your one of a kind mixed media fiber journal. We will use liquid acrylics in just a couple of colors to paint the paper at the beginning of the workshop before doing our collage.

Abstract Textural Surfaces With Canvas
Friday, March 12
We will work with 4 colors in this workshop. Bring to class 5 - 20"x20" pieces of dyed light weigth canvas. One of the pieces will be the back and will stay in the original 20" size.
We will cut freehand strips from 4 of the colors and piece them back together. The shapes will then be cut and pieced from the pieced strips. Don’t worry this is a pretty easy process to get the fabric ready to then cut shapes and arrange the top. We will use embroidery thread to quilt the piece to the backing.
The results, add interesting textured piece. Join us for the fun of it
Extreme Textural Surfaces
Monday March 8 & Turesday March 9

Techniques in layering, embroidery, heat distressing, collage, digital printing and alternative bookmaking will be taught. We will look at uncommon ways to use surfaces, with exercises that stretch beyond where we have been before. Each participant will bring their special style to the surfaces created.
Limbs: Abstract and Figurative
Thursday, March 11

Exploring landscapes and the forms found in nature, we will create interesting compositions that can be used as a series of blocks or a larger piece. Utilizing freehand cutting techniques we will shape our creations spontaneously as we draw with our rotary cutter. No measuring, no rulers, just cutting and piecing. You will be amazed at how your own style will emerge in your freehand technique. No 2 pieces will be alike as participants create a spontaneous, individual way.
